New international undergraduate and postgraduate enrolment fell sharply in the US and Canada this fall, according to a NAFSA survey. US colleges reported a 6% drop in new bachelor’s and a 19% decline in new master’s students, while Canadian institutions saw decreases of 36% and 35%. Government visa policies were the leading obstacle, followed by tuition and living costs.
