NCERT textbook row: SC asks Centre to review curriculum, bars social science panel chief and two members from textbook work

The Centre informed the Supreme Court that it has directed NCERT to review textbooks of all classes after a controversy over “offending” references to corruption in the judiciary in a Class 8 social science book. The apex court, hearing a suo motu case, suggested that the government consider constituting an independent expert committee to review the curriculum. The court has already banned the textbook, ordered seizure of copies, and directed that certain academics be disassociated from curriculum work.
