University of California continues its policy of annual tuition hikes, despite growing student opposition

The University of California Board of Regents approved a policy allowing annual tuition increases for incoming undergraduate students, despite student opposition. This “stability” model, effective 2026-27, keeps tuition flat for current students but raises it for future cohorts by up to 5% annually, indexed to inflation, to address budget pressures and deferred maintenance.
